HERITAGE FESTIVAL – The Bridgeport Coal Miner’s Heritage Festival is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow on Halsell Street. Events include a chili cookoff, live entertainment, cooking competition, motorcycle show, poker run, 5K walk/run, children’s activities, hot dog eating contest, pageant, photography contest, pet costume parade, historical demonstrations and vendor booths. WEATHER CHANGES COMING – The coldest air of the season is headed for Wise County this weekend. A cold front will drop temperatures into the 40s tonight, and highs Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be in the 50s. There is also a chance of rain tonight through tomorrow night.

FOOTBALL TIME – Tonight’s local high school football games include Alvarado at Decatur, Graham at Bridgeport, Pilot Point at Boyd, Whitesboro at Paradise and Gainesville State at Chico. CRUISE NIGHTS – Decatur Main Street’s Cruise Nights on the Courthouse Square is Saturday. Registration for the last show of the season is $10 per vehicle and runs 4 to 7 p.m. Judging begins at 7, and awards will be presented in 20 classes at 8 p.m. Downtown merchants and restaurants will stay open late. PROJECT GRADUATION MEETING – The Alvord High School Class of 2013 Project Graduation will hold a mandatory meeting at 5 p.m. Sunday at the AHS cafeteria. Haunted house workdays are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

FALL FESTIVAL AT CARE – The Second Annual Fall Festival at the Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE) is Oct. 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 and Nov. 3 and 4. Tours will start at noon and 3 p.m. each day. Visitors are invited to come out an hour earlier to participate in games, arts and crafts, refreshments and treats and a raffle. During the tour, visitors will be able to give presents and treats to the animals. The center asks for a $20 donation for adults and $10 for children under 12. Raffle tickets are $5 each. HABITAT ORIENTATION – Trinity Habitat for Humanity will have homeowner orientations at 10 a.m. Saturdays, Oct. 6 and Nov. 3, at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, 608 17th St. Those interested in building and owning a home through the organization are invited. FOOD DRIVE – South Wise Spirit of Christmas volunteers are collecting canned goods for needy families. Canned goods can be dropped off at the Rhome City Hall and the Wells Fargo and Woodhaven banks in Rhome.

CLASS OF ’72 REUNION – The Decatur High School Class of 1972 is having their 40-year class reunion on Oct. 19 and 20. There will be a gathering at Reunion on The Square after the ball game on the 19th, and on Saturday the 20th the reunion will be hosted at the home of Nathan Horner at 609 S. PARENT MEETING – Decatur High School will have a meeting for parents of the Class of 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the second floor lecture hall at Decatur High School. Various topics will be discussed concerning life after high school for the Class of 2013.

TRADE DAYS – Wise County Cowboy Church’s Trade Days is 8 a.m. Saturday at 2070 Old Denton Road. Proceeds benefit the youth camp fund.

FUNERAL – Memorial service for Elaine Verhaagen, 69, of Alvord is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Burleson Memorial Cemetery in Burleson. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.
