GREENWOOD FALL FESTIVAL - The annual Greenwood Fall Festival is this Saturday in the community located just north of Decatur. The festival, which features arts and craft booths, children’s train rides, food and game booths and door prizes, runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., highlighted by a parade at 10 a.m. The event is hosted by the Greenwood Extension Education Club. To get to Greenwood, head north for 10 miles on FM 51, then turn left on Farm Road 1204. It is approximately five miles to Greenwood.
FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL – Tonight’s football lineup includes Decatur at Gainesville, Bridgeport at Krum, Boyd at Callisburg, Haltom at Northwest, Paradise at Bowie, Alvord at Nocona and Chico at Valley View. FALL FESTIVAL AND BLOOD DRIVE – The First United Methodist Church of Boyd will host a blood drive by Carter BloodCare 9 a.m.-noon Saturday during its Lord’s Acre Fall Festival. The event will feature children’s games and activities, baked goods, homemade treats, crafts, vendors and a flea market. A homemade turkey dinner will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. followed by a live auction at 1:30 p.m.
PLANT SALE – The Decatur FFA Plant Sale is 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Exxon Station, at the corner of U.S. 81/287 and Farm Road 51. Fall plants including dianthus, snapdragons, pansies, and chrysanthemums.
BREAST HEALTH SUBJECT OF TALK – Ellen Kilgore from the North Texas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will speak at Weatherford College Wise County at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 as part of the “Aging Wisely” speaker series. The talk is titled “Breast Health 101″ and will take place in room No. 105. The campus is located at 5180 Highway 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport.
MELODRAMA PERFORMANCES – The Wise County Historical Society presents its rendition of the melodrama “The Shagwood Secret” or “Double Deal at the Dirty Dog Saloon” by Teddy Keller 7 p.m. today and Saturday at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. For more information, call (940) 627-5586.
FOSSIL, ROCK, MINERAL – The Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society meets 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Main St. in Decatur. 50TH CLASS REUNION – Bridgeport High School Class of 1962 is planning to hold its 50th Reunion 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Bridgeport Recreation Center. Lunch will be provided. For more information call Gary Potts at (940) 389-8756.
CEMETERY MEETING – The Pella Cemetery meeting and lunch on the grounds is 1 p.m. Sunday. The cemetery is located off of Farm Road 1655, seven miles west of Alvord.
FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER – The Cottondale Volunteer Fire Department is having a fundraiser tomorrow. The event will include music by Rocking B 4 to 7 p.m., a barbecue dinner 5 to 7 p.m. and a live and silent auction 4 to 9 p.m. There will also be a bounce house and a jail. Raffle tickets for a gun are being sold for $5 each at Cottondale Store and Deli, Raymond’s Barbecue in Bridgeport, Elliott Electric Supply in Bridgeport or at the fundraiser. TRANSITION HOME OPEN HOUSE – HopeInnChrist, a transition home for boys coming out of the juvenile justice system, will host an open house, “Gathering of Hope,” from 2 to 6 p.m. tomorrow. The home is located at 17983 North County Line Road in Ponder, off U.S. 380 between Decatur and Denton. Exit south onto North County Line Road and follow the signs about 2.5 miles. WOMEN’S HEALTH EVENT – Texas AgriLife Extension-Wise County and the Friend to Friend Coalition is hosting a Friend to Friend – Staying Healthy Together event at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Weatherford College Wise County. The event is free, and attendees will learn the importance of mammograms and pap tests. They will also find out how to access financial resources and fully funded area services, and they will be able to visit retail and educational exhibits. There will be refreshments and door prizes. FUNERAL for Eddie Ray “Bo” Morman, 57, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Monday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
SERVICE for Verna Johnston Larson, 100, formerly of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.
