SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS – The Alvord ISD board of trustees Thursday gave its support to the concept of issuing maintenance tax notes to finance just over $1 million in improvements and purchases the district needs to make. Topping the list is paving parking lots and driveways around the middle school and high school, but also needed are a bus with a wheelchair lift, funds to complete the district’s wireless network, and to finish installing security cameras at the middle school. Repaying the bonds over 15 years would cost around $85,000 a year according to an estimate put together by superintendent Bill Branum. The board did not vote to issue any bonds, but plans to meet again next Thursday for a vote to put the process in motion. For a complete report on the meeting, see this weekend’s Wise County Messenger.
