FIREFIGHTERS HONORED – Four Decatur volunteer firefighters were honored Thursday with their official badges, black helmets and firefighter certifications. Fire Chief Mike Richardson presented the badges to Todd Nelson, Peter Franco, Mark Cannon and Jason Daniel in a ceremony at the Decatur Fire Station. Two firefighters, Jed Boyd and Eli Nobles received their paramedic certification and Jason Daniel and Dusty Baker received their EMT patches. Todd Nelson and Ryan Davis received ECA patches.

FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS – Northwest lost to Arlington Lamar 37-30 in the first round of the playoffs last night at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Two more Wise County teams begin their playoff runs tonight with Boyd taking on Farmersville at the Little Elm Athletic Complex and Bridgeport facing Argyle at Marcus High School. DISD GROWTH PROJECTIONS – The Decatur School District is expected to add 271 students over a five-year period and 667 students over a 10-year period, according to a demographic report provided to the school board last night by Bob Templeton with Templeton Demographics. That works out to a 1 to 3 percent annual enrollment increase over the 10-year period.

THANKSGIVING WEEK LUNCHES – The Bridgeport Middle School Student Council will provide free lunches to any students and parents who would like a lunch during Thanksgiving break. Lunches will be served at Harwood Park from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19 through Friday, Nov. 23.

BLOOD DRIVE – The Decatur Rotary Club is sponsoring a blood drive 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. today at Wal-Mart in Decatur. For information call Sharyl Branum at (817) 412-5207.

DEMOCRATS TO MEET – Wise County Democrats meet 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in the second floor courtroom of the Wise County Courthouse. Newly-elected County Surveyor Davey Edwards will be the guest speaker.

BUCKLE SHOW – The Alvord 4-H Buckle Show is 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse grounds in Decatur. Entry cards are due at 9 a.m. For more information, call Missy at (940) 393-0664.

DENTAL SCREENINGS – There will be free dental screenings 8:30 a.m. to noon today at Decatur’s Head Start Center, 575 W. Mulberry St.

MISSION TRIP FUNDRAISER – Proceeds from a few Mary Kay fundraisers this week benefit Kendall Thatcher of Bridgeport. The 2012 BHS graduate and student at Weatherford College plans to go on a mission trip to Madrid, Spain, next summer. Events are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and 6 to 8 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Rosebud Building, 1102 Stevens St. in Bridgeport. RODEO TEAM BAKE SALE – The Decatur High School rodeo team will hold a bake sale fundraiser at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at First Financial Bank in Decatur. The sale will include pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more.

DHS CLASS REUNION – The Decatur High School Class of 2002 is celebrating its 10-year Class Reunion 6 p.m. Saturday at the Black Creek Pumpkin Patch. Cost to attend is $10, and proceeds will benefit fellow classmate Brian Peyton.

TRAP SHOOT AND PLAY DAY – Wise County Cowboy Church is having a trap shoot and a play day Saturday at 2070 Old Denton Road, outside Decatur. The trap shoot begins at 8:30 a.m., and sign-up for the play day is at 2 p.m. Events start at 3. The church requests participants bring a canned food item for each event entered. AUXILIARY HOLIDAY STORE – The Wise Regional Hospital Auxiliary will open its annual holiday store 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, 104 S. Miller St., in Decatur. Lunch will be served for $5 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It includes chili or soup with cornbread, dessert, iced tea and coffee. Shop for gifts, handmade items, baked goods and Christmas decorations. There is also a $500 cash raffle. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Drawing is Dec. 3.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Henry “Curley” Crowson, 81, of Boyd is 11 a.m. Monday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Lorene Denton, 91, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Home with burial at West Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for L.D. Peel, 92, of Grand Prairie is 10 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Cemetery in Springtown. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

FUNERAL for Jerry Curtis Buckingham, 76, of Chico is 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Chico with burial at Chico Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
