MORE WINTER WEATHER POSSIBLE – Wise County is included in a winter weather advisory area through noon today, according to the National Weather Service. A cold front is expected to move in this morning, bringing surface temperatures below freezing. Ongoing drizzle is expected to continue, which could leave a light glaze of ice, primarily on bridges and overpasses. The freezing drizzle is expected to diminish by late this morning. The temperature is expected to drop to around 22 overnight.
BRIDGEPORT METER UPGRADES COMING – Water and electric meters for accounts in the city of Bridgeport will be replaced and upgraded beginning Jan. 7. Workers wearing either safety green or blue shirts bearing a “Siemens/PVI Meter Team” logo and driving trucks marked with the same logo will swap out the meters. Meter replacement could cause a temporary, approximately 30-minute loss of service. Commercial meter customers will be notified of water and electric shutoffs in advance. Anyone with special needs for water or electricity should notify the city at (940) 683-3400. An informational meeting on the new meters will be held 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at City Hall (900 Thompson St.).
BRIDGEPORT TRASH COLLECTION – Trash pick-up in the city of Bridgeport will assume its normal schedule Monday, Dec. 31, but, starting New Years Day, will shift over a day – Tuesday’s collection will be on Wednesday, Thursday’s on Friday and Friday’s on Saturday.
DECATUR TRASH COLLECTION – There will be no trash collection in Decatur today. Tomorrow, areas south of Main Street will have trash collected. All recycling city-wide will also be picked up Saturday. Areas north of Main Street will have trash collection on Sunday. Monday will be the normal schedule.
BENEFIT – Chili’s will be giving back for “Milestones for Mikey” Sunday through Tuesday. A portion of all proceeds will be donated for all eat-in orders or take-out when his name is mentioned. Flyers with free dessert offer are available at Texas Insurance Agency in Bridgeport. Michael Bible was paralyzed in a motor vehicle accident on Oct. 3 and is in rehab at Baylor in Dallas.
HOUSING AUTHORITY POLICY REVIEW – The Bridgeport Housing Authority annual and five-year plan policy changes and utility allowance are available for public review. A meeting to discuss the review will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 1508 Cobb St.
WARM CLOSED FOR HOLIDAY – Wise Area Relief Mission (WARM) is closed through Tuesday, Jan. 1, and will resume regular food distribution hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
OFFICE CLOSED – Wise Hope Crisis Center in Decatur will be closed through Jan. 1. The office will reopen on Jan. 2. The 24-hour Crisis Hotline will be answered at all times at (940) 626-4855 and advocates will be on call for urgent situations. In case of an emergency, call 911.
