FIRE CAUSES MINIMAL DAMAGE – A fire was reported at Wise Electric Co-op in Decatur Thursday around 11 a.m. Chris Walsh, an engineering manager at Wise Electric, said smoke started to fill the building and all employees evacuated. The Decatur Fire Department arrived and located the source of the fire in some insulation. The fire was quickly extinguished, and minimal damage was reported.

LAST CHANCES TO SWIM – Runaway Bay City Pool remains open 1 to 6 p.m. this weekend – Friday, Aug. 24 through Monday, Aug. 27 – and next – Saturday, Sept. 1, through Monday, Sept. 3 – before closing for the season. For more information, call Peggy Barton at (940) 626-9046.

LOOK LOCAL EVENT – The Taste of Wise County and Ms. Senior Wise County Pageant is 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Decatur Civic Center. Visitors can sample food from Wise County restaurants, and 11 local women will compete for the title of Ms. Senior Wise County. The free event will also feature door prizes.

FREE HAIRCUTS – The Hair Shop in Bridgeport will give free haircuts to students in grades pre-k through 6th grade 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Free backpacks and school supplies will be given out as supplies last. The shop is located at 1412 Chico Highway. Call (940) 683-2484 for more information.

PRAYER WALK – The Decatur Prayer Walk is Friday, Aug. 31. The walk will begin at Young Elementary at 8:15 a.m. and finish at Carson Elementary at approximately 11:30 a.m. T-shirts are available for $15. CO-OP BRISKETS – Wise Electric Co-op is selling briskets for Labor Day, with proceeds benefiting charity. Briskets are $40 and orders must be placed by 5 p.m. today by calling (940) 627-2167. Orders can be picked up 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30.

ICE CREAM FUNDRAISER – Chico Order of the Eastern Star is hosting an ice cream social fundraiser 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Lodge. There will be homemade ice cream, cookies and cakes.

PARADISE MEET THE TEACHER – Paradise Elementary will hold its Meet the Teacher Night Monday, Aug. 27. The event will be divided into two sessions with the first for students with last names beginning with letters A-M from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The second session for students N-Z will begin at 6:30 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring their school supplies. There will also be a drawing for students bringing Box Tops for Education.

PARADISE BTS BREAKFAST – Paradise Elementary parents are invited to a breakfast at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in the library to visit and receive information on volunteer programs, PTO and parent resource center and parent involvement programs along with after-school pickup procedures and locations.

GOLF TOURNEY – Bridgeport Project Graduation is having a golf tournament Saturday, Oct. 6, at Runaway Bay Country Club to benefit the Class of 2013. For team or sponsorship information or to volunteer, call Alice Coffman at (940) 389-7203.

GOLF TOURNAMENT - The annual Decatur Lions Club Golf Tournament benefiting local Boy Scouts is Saturday at the Decatur Golf Club. Two-player team registration begins at 8 a.m. Cost is $100 per two-player team. Contact is Angela Smith at (940) 627-6333.

FUNERAL – Memorial service for Richard Streller, 69, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
