A bloodied horse, still wearing a saddle, was discovered running from a wooded area north of Alvord about 1:30 p.m. today. The Alvord Fire Department and Wise County EMS were called to the scene  on County Road 2788 near the LBJ National Grasslands to search for a “possible injured person.”

The horse has no visible injuries, but there is blood on its neck and hind legs. One of its reins is also broken. Neighbors did not recognize the horse, and investigators said the brand is not registered in Wise County. A search team, including Sheriff David Walker and Capt. Kevin Benton, is combing the area looking for the rider.

The search ended at 4:30 p.m. The rider was found involved in her own search mission.
She’d been thrown off her horse early that morning. After walking the three-plus mile trek back home, she jumped in her pickup truck and started looking for her horse.
“She was skinned up, but she refused any medical treatment,” Sheriff David Walker said.
The woman was soon reunited with her horse.
