The Boyd Yellowjackets couldn’t slow down the Muenster Hornets’ passing attack Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 7-on-7 state qualifier at Yellowjacket Stadium.

Muenster won the game 39-27 to earn a trip to the state championships in College Station July 19-20. Crandall earned the second state berth from the Boyd qualifier.

The loss to Muenster followed Boyd’s 40-20 win over Red Oak Life and 34-21 loss to Springtown in Pool A play. Springtown, who previously earned a state berth, couldn’t advance out of pool play.

This is the first time in three years Boyd did not make the state tournament.

Boyd quarterback Blake McDonald said the team was disappointed to come up short against Muenster.

“We did not play to the best of our ability,” he said. “We had some dropped passes and came out flat.

“[This summer] our passing game got a lot better,” McDonald added. “It would have been nice to go to state, but we’ll be ready for the season.”

Boyd was one of four Wise County teams bidding for a state berth Saturday that came up short.

Decatur dropped its three games against Aubrey, Whitesboro and Godley. Chico fell to Red Oak Life, Muenster and Iowa Park. Paradise lost games against Fort Worth All Saints and Crandall.

Players will have a little more than a month before the start of fall workouts. The first day for two-a-days will be Aug. 6. Scrimmages begin Aug. 17. The first day for games is Aug. 30.
