The University Interscholastic League Legislative Council met earlier this week and decided to expand the number of football teams making the postseason.

Teams in Class 3A and 2A, will now have their top four teams from each district qualifying for the playoffs. Previously only the top three advanced.

The move evens things out with Class 5A and 4A where the top four teams also advance.

The Legislative Council also approved a proposal to rename all conferences, creating a Conference 6A. The current Conference 1A Division II, which includes six-man schools, will become Conference 1A. Current Class A Division I schools, will become Conference 2A. The rest of the conferences will move up one number.

These changes will go into effect for the 2014-2016 realignment.

The UIL also created 3A divisions for team tennis and soccer to take place for 2014-16.
