Tigers chomp on Alvord

Alvord gave up 40 or more points to its seventh straight opponent and also finished with its seventh straight outcome – a loss.

The Bulldogs turned the ball over three times in a 40-14 loss to Jacksboro Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

Jacksboro’s Logan Dixon picked off a Bulldog pass and returned it 18 yards for a score with 5:19 remaining in the first quarter to give the Tigers an early lead. Kirk Weldon added a 4-yard run with 43 seconds left in the quarter to extend the Tigers’ lead to 14-0.

Weldon used his arm for the Tigers’ next score when he connected on a 22-yard pass to Nathan Zapata with 8:33 left in the second quarter. Reed Spiller punched it in from 1 yard out with 5:54 remaining in the half to give Jacksboro a commanding 27-0 lead.

The Bulldogs’ first score came with 54 seconds left before halftime when Joe Randall scored on a 16-yard run. Jose Luna’s kick made it a 27-7 game, but the Tigers quickly responded with 38 seconds left in the half Weldon and Zapata connected again to increase the lead to 34-7.

Jacksboro added its last score on a 5-yard run by Spiller with 8:55 left in the third quarter. Alvord capped the scoring with a 2-yard run by Randall with 2:45 remaining in the quarter.

Alvord quarterback Cassidy Patterson was 8 for 18 for 137 yards and two interceptions. Ty Silvey caught two passes for 75 yards. Randall rushed for a game-high 108 yards on 21 carries.

Alvord (1-7, 0-3) will host Henrietta next week.
