After three years and 38 games, the Slidell Lady Greyhounds’ district winning streak is over.
With a strong second half, Bellevue put an end to the Lady Greyhounds’ streak with a 52-40 victory.
“They outplayed us,” said Slidell coach Cody Vanover. “We were making mistakes that we don’t make. We gave up easy layups. They outrebounded us. They were more ready to play than us.”
It was Slidell’s first district loss since the league opener in 2009 against Midway. The Lady Greyhounds have won three-straight district titles since then, including this year, and made two trips to the regional tournament.
“There were times that we’ve won a few games that we shouldn’t have,” Vanover said. “Against Prairie Valley a few weeks ago, we scored the last seven points to win.
“This will make us better. It should have their attention losing to a fourth-place team.”
Slidell will open the playoffs in the area round Friday against the winner of the Aquilla/Covington bi-district game in Aledo.
Against Bellevue, Brooke Rhodes led the Lady Greyhounds with 25 points. Katy Stephens added nine.
The game was tied at 24 at halftime. Bellevue took control in the second game with physical play.
