Changing her wardrobe will not be among the concerns for Rebekah Cummings as she begins her first head volleyball coaching job at Bridgeport.
”I’ve got plenty of maroon to bring with me,” said Cummings, who has spent the past three seasons as an assistant at Midland Lee.
Cummings was hired Monday by Bridgeport to take over the volleyball program from Lynn Larson, who resigned in May to take a job in Brock.
Bridgeport Athletic Director Danny Henson said Cummings stood out in her interview.
“She’s been a JV coach in a good 5A program,” Henson said. “It’s a good move for us and her.”
In her three years with the Midland Lee program, the team made the playoffs in 2010 and 2011. Cummings said that experience will help her at Bridgeport.
“I’ve had great preparation being a part of a successful 5A program,” she said. “I want to take that experience to Bridgeport.”
She takes over a squad that has made the playoffs the past two seasons. The Sissies advanced to the area round of the Class 3A Region I playoffs before falling to state runner-up Abilene Wylie.
