Sissies capture consolation trophy

The Bridgeport Sissies captured the consolation championship at the FW Brewer Tournament Saturday.

The Sissies got past Trimble Tech to capture the consolation trophy 25-20, 25-18. Mariah Clayton finished with eight kills, two blocks and two digs. Sabrina Garza had six kills and Tiffany Hawkins added 17 assists.

“We won consolation against some tough teams,” Bridgeport coach Rebekah Cummings said. “The team played well together as a whole and really rallied to finish the game. Our defense continues to improve and I was proud of the leadership that the seniors showed.”

Bridgeport edged FW Nolan JV in the semifinal 26-24, 27-29, 25-21. Clayton had 15 kills and Garza finished with 12. Jessica Mares led in digs with 14 and Hawkins added 29 assists.

In their first game Saturday the Sissies defeated Molina 25-20, 25-14.

Clayton had six kills and two blocks. Regan Hurd, Garza and Hawkins all had three kills. Mares led with four digs. Hawkins added 12 assists.
