Paradise runs over competition at Alvord

It turned out to be a tremendous day for the Paradise Lady Panthers. Paradise captured the district cross country meet with 36 points at Alvord Monday. They also took the JV girls and 8th grade girls divisions.

The Alvord Lady Bulldogs advanced to the regional meet after finishing third with 60 points. Millsap took the second spot with 39. Boyd placed fifth with 128 points.

Millsap’s Haley Younger took the overall individual title in a time of 12:42.

“It’s very exciting,” Paradise coach Eddie Fortenberry said. “It’s nice to turn things around and have success. They have put in a lot of hard work and dedication.”

Paradise took six of the top 11 spots. Bailey Sides led the way in fifth with a time of 12:42. Ashley Sparks placed sixth in 13:16. Emily Corbin took seventh in 13:20. Kaylee McConnel finished eighth with a time of 13:22.

Emily Brinson crossed the line as Paradise’s fifth runner in 10th with a time of 13:24.

Makala Neighbors ran 13:34 for 11th and Aliyah Read took 20th in 14:30.

Alvord was without two of their top runners, but still advanced.

“We were just hoping to get in,” Alvord coach Curtis Enis said. “We’ll get both our runners back soon and then we can gear up for regionals.”

Clara Breashears led the way for Alvord with a fourth place finish in 13:08. Ariel Rogers was ninth in 13:24. Savannah Williams captured 14th in 13:59 and Marissa Schedcik was close behind in 15th with a time of 14:10.

Lauren Hart was Alvord’s fifth runner in 18th with a time of 14:25. Cory Schlomach placed 29th in 15:13. Sarah Nichols took 36th in 15:32.

Boyd was led by Jessica Colbert in 17th in 14:14. Courtney Sanders captured 26th in 15:02, Abby Fagan 27th in 15:09 and Heather Beauregard in 28th with a time of 15:10.

Jade Moore was Boyd’s fifth runner in 30th with a time of 15:16.

Lizeth Uribe ran 15:21 good for 33rd. Michaela Kling placed 39th in 16:20.

The regional meet will be held Nov. 3 in Arlington.

YELLOWJACKETS ADVANCE

The Boyd Yellowjackets advanced to the regional cross country meet with a third place finish at the district meet Monday at Alvord.

Boyd picked up 70 points while first place Brock had 50. Peaster placed second with 51.

Paradise took fourth with 77 points and Alvord was seventh with 171.

David Buchanon of Peaster won the individual title with a time of 17:58.

Marco Martinez led the Yellowjackets in third place with a time of 18:09. Aaron Hammett was ninth with a time of 19:10. Blake Rhumann took 13th in 19:43. Josh Singleton placed 22nd in 20:32.

Cameron Hammett was Boyd’s fifth runner in 23rd with a time of 20:33.

Eric Esquivel finished 31st in 21:36. Isaac Vang ran 22:39 for 39th.

Paradise was led by Chance Dial in 11th with a time of 19:33. Landry Norwood was 12th in 19:37. Jarrett Holt placed 17th in 20:03. Colby Dial took 18th in 20:05.

J.D. Pearson was the Panthers fifth runner in 20:18 good for 19th. Sam Robinson was 20th in 20:20 and Zack Fletcher 24th in 20:48.

Alvord was led by Logan Watkins in 27th with a time of 21:18. Andrew Nichols placed 28th in 21:28. Nick Shea took 35th in 22:05. Kory Maag ran 22:51 for 40th.

Heath Walker was Alvord’s fifth runner in 41st with a time of 23:04. Cody Peterson finished 42nd in 23:49 and Cody Newby 44th in 25:47.
