The Northwest Texans still have a couple of goals in front of them before they enter the postseason next week. Northwest has a chance to win eight games for the first time as a Class 5A program and take down their most heated district rival.

The Texans put together one of their most complete games of the season against Richland last week.
Northwest rolled up 587 yards of total offense and held Richland to just 106.
“We played well,” Northwest coach Bill Patterson said. “The kids are to the point where they understand what we need to do, and they’re doing it.”
A victory against Keller Central solidifies the Texans in the second spot in District 4-5A. It is a great playoff position for a team that is still searching for its first playoff win in school history.
To get that done the Texans have to contain Jake McClurg. He is a very balanced quarterback passing for 857 yards, and rushing for 838. He leads the Chargers in both categories.
“They have a fine ball club,” Patterson said. “They have a very good sophomore quarterback, a good defense and have played everybody tough.”
Patterson feels if the Texans can keep doing what they’ve been able to do all district long, then that eighth win might be right around the corner.
“We have to make sure we don’t turn the ball over,” Patterson said. “We need to contain their quarterback and play like we have the last couple of weeks.”
