Northwest blows away Rebels, 59-7

The Northwest Texans made quick work of Richland Friday night.

The 59-7 blowout will allow the Texans to enter their last district matchup in second place.

The Texans’ defense only allowed the Rebels one first down in the first half while the Texan offense scored on every possession.

“Our kids came out ready, and we got up on them 38 to nothing in the first half,” said head coach Bill Patterson. “Our kids played great on both sides of the ball and we got to play a lot of people. It was exciting.”

The first quarter saw the Texans put up 10 points. Dakota Chavis ran one yard for a Texan touchdown in the first five minutes, then a Sam Jennings interception allowed the Texans to run the ball within field goal range. Cayden Ihrig kicked a 27-yarder with three minutes remaining.

In the second quarter, the Texans’ offense got rolling and the Rebels could not stop them, allowing four touchdowns.

Just 11 seconds in, Chavis ran 57 yards for a touchdown.

Four minutes later, Emmanuel Moore scampered six yards for another touchdown, putting the Texans up 24-0.

Draze Lawliss completed two touchdown passes. Chase Morrison caught the first one from seven yards. With 12 seconds left until halftime, Dylan Stubbe put another seven on the board by catching a 31-yard pass.

The third quarter allowed a Richland touchdown but not before another Texan seven.

A quick, 40-second possession allowed Chavis to run 37 yards for a touchdown.

Rebel quarterback Brandon Maine completed a four-yard pass to Canyon Brock for the only Richland touchdown, making it 45-7.

A one-yard run by Dennis Adrole got the Texans another touchdown.

The final touchdown of the game came on a one-yard run by Dzosa Kangkolo.

The Texans (7-2, 5-1) will face Keller Central (6-3, 4-2) in a huge match at home on Friday, Nov. 9.

“That’s our big rival,” Patterson said. “They’re just across the highway so we’re just going to have to go play and do the best we can.”
