The No. 3 Decatur Lady Eagles kept their perfect district record intact with another sweep Friday. Decatur took down rival Bridgeport, 25-8, 25-14, 25-11.
The Lady Eagles (31-5, 3-0) have not lost a single set in district play.
“We handled the ball well, and everybody got some playing time,” Decatur coach Claire Rose said. “We served well and ran a good, fast offense.”
The Sissies made a small run in the third set before Decatur tied the game 6-6. A Cooper Martin ace gave the Lady Eagles an 8-6 lead, and Decatur never looked back. They ended the third game on a 19-5 run.
Bridgeport (13-13, 0-3) is going in the opposite direction, losing their third straight district contest.
“The girls played very tense throughout most of the match,” Bridgeport coach Rebekah Cummings said. “We did not take care of the ball. The scores are not reflective of how far we’ve come. We will get back to work this week and fix the things we know need fixing.”
The Lady Eagles were led by Martin with 10 kills, two blocks and two aces. Caroline Lowery added nine kills, a block, six digs and an ace. Katie Isham finished with six kills and seven blocks. Makayla Mayfield recorded 14 digs, three kills and three blocks.
