Hart joins Alvord staff to lead defense

Alvord Athletic Director and football coach Curtis Enis is turning to a familiar face around Wise County to lead his defense on the football field and to coach boys track.

Pete Hart, who has spent the past two years at Bridgeport, is moving to Alvord to take over as defensive coordinator and boys track coach.

“I needed to get a quality coach and knew that I needed to put a coordinator position to it,” Enis said. “I called and met him for lunch. He called Monday morning, and he told me he decided to accept our offer.”

Hart, who previously was the head football coach and athletic director at Chico, said an opportunity to be a defensive coordinator led to the decision to change jobs.

“I like being a defensive coordinator and enjoy calling defenses,” Hart said. “I was happy in Bridgeport as the defensive line coach, but this opportunity presented itself. Curtis is a good friend. Also Coach [Charlie] Mann is over there as the offensive line coach. I’ll get a chance to coach with him again.”

Hart fills the spot vacated by Billy Garza, who accepted a job at Post. Enis said Garza and his wife each accepted jobs at Post.

Enis is still looking to hire a softball coach that is also a math teacher and will assist with football. The coach will replace Ryan Starnes, who took the softball post at Brock.
