Eagles topple ‘Dogs in finale

The Decatur Eagles closed the regular season Friday with a 2-1 victory over the Burkburnett Bulldogs.

The victory gave the Eagles the program’s best record at the end of district play at 4-4-2. Decatur will be District 9-4A’s fourth seed in the playoffs. It will play either Byron Nelson or Fort Worth Brewer in an area round match April 3.

Against Burkburnett, Juan Alvarez and Jake Anderson scored goals.

BURKBURNETT 5, DECATUR 4

The Decatur Lady Eagles couldn’t hold off Burkburnett Friday to secure the program’s first playoff spot.

Burkburnett rallied back from a 3-1 deficit to win 5-4 Friday.

Decatur led 2-0 before Burkburnett found the back of the net. The Lady Eagles added another goal to go up 3-1.

After Burkburnett put in four goals, Decatur got one more but couldn’t get the game tied.
