Eagles take first at District 9-3A meet

It was just another day at the office for the Decatur Eagles at the District 9-3A Cross Country Meet Wednesday at Joe Wheeler Park in Decatur.

The Eagles dominated the competition taking first place with 20 points. Sanger placed second with 44 and Gainesville was third with 85.

The top three teams advance to the regional meet in Arlington Nov. 3.

“Our boys took a very business-like approach to the meet,” Decatur coach David Park said. “We suffered a little bit with the heat but our kids went in feeling like they were the best team.”

Decatur took six of the top eight spots, led by Taylor Clayton who turned in another first-place performance with a time of 16:01.

Daniel Smyers was third in 16:51 followed by Michael Smyers in fourth with a time of 16:57. Austin Poole finished fifth in 16:58.

Travis Kyle was Decatur’s fifth runner to cross the line in seventh with a time of 17:35.

Brandon Rivera ran 17:44 in eighth position and Joaquin Aldape took 13th in 18:21.
