Decatur’s Drew Jones is now ranked No. 8 in the nation.Jones shot rounds of 77 and 74 to earn a tie for 14th at the prestigious Texas Cup Invitational played at the Honors Golf Club of Dallas. The international field consisted of 78 of the world’s best junior golfers ages 15-18, for the eighth annual Legends Junior Tour Texas Cup Invitational Oct. 20-21.
Jones has been ranked in the top 20 all summer among 2016 graduates according to Junior Golf Scoreboard. This new ranking marks the first time the 15-year-old has broken the top-ten nationally.
The boys-only field included some of the world’s best juniors from 10 states, Spain, Italy, Columbia, Mexico, Germany, Canada and Laos. The championship was played over 36 holes of individual stroke play on the par-71 D.A. Weibring design.
With such a strong field on display, college coaches from the University of Oklahoma, Arizona, Houston, Baylor, North Texas and Nevada were on hand. Representatives from Nike Golf were in attendance to let players try and test their new products.
