Things are looking up in Chico. After two straight victories the Dragons are sitting at 2-1 with two more home games before the district schedule begins.Coming off a bye week Chico (2-1) showed no ill effects with their 43-6 dominating win over the Texas Leadership Charter Academy (TLCA).
“Our off week was great,” Chico coach Stephen Carter said. “We took that time to work on some things and get in shape.”
Carter says since the opening-week loss to Frost, his team has a totally different mindset.
“We are still kind of learning, but they are starting to see what we’re doing works,” Carter said. “Now we want them to be prepared for what’s ahead.”
A homecoming date with the Dallas Academy Bulldogs (3-1) is the next thing on the Dragons’ schedule. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Carter says the homecoming distractions are something his staff will have to deal with.
“We’ve got to find a way to keep the kids focused this week,” Carter explained.
The Bulldogs are coming off their first loss of the season, 84-38 to Gordon.
Dallas Academy hasn’t struggled putting points on the board this season. They are averaging 56.8 points per game along with 249.3 rushing yards.
Frost ate up Chico with 416 rushing yards in week zero.
The Dragons have given up an average of 182.5 rushing yards in their last two games.
“Power running teams have been a problem for us in the past,” Carter said. “But we are continuing to get better.”
Dallas Academy has given up a lot of points and yards. Chico’s high-powered offense should be able to feast on a struggling Bulldog defense.
Hunter York is already over the 1,100 passing yard mark on the season, and Matt Carter has 334 receiving yards.
