For the fourth consecutive year the No. 3 Decatur Lady Eagles have clinched a district championship. Decatur’s 25-19, 25-22, 25-12 win over Gainesville sealed the first-place finish.
“It’s exciting winning it four years in a row,” Decatur coach Claire Rose said about the district title. “It says a lot about this program and where it’s come from. It also says a lot about our girls and how hard they’ve worked to get better.”
Decatur (34-3, 6-0) had a couple of close calls in the match but made the plays they needed to down the stretch. It was Gainesville’s first home loss of the season.
“We didn’t have our best match on Friday, and we weren’t as sharp as we would like to be,” Rose said. “Sometimes those games are good to evaluate where we are and where we want to end up.”
Cooper Martin finished with eight kills, 14 digs and three blocks. Makayla Mayfield had eight kills and seven digs. Caroline Lowery added seven kills, eight blocks and five digs. Katie Isham finished with 10 blocks and three kills.
Stormi Leonard handed out 21 assists and recorded 10 digs.
Decatur will conclude their district schedule Friday at home against Krum.
