The Chico Dragons flattened the Trenton Tigers Friday night 40-0 to close the season with back-to-back district wins.

They end the year at 6-4 and 2-3 in district, a significant improvement for a team that hadn’t won a district game in eight years ’til last week.

Dylan Hightower and Dalton Tullos lit up the scoreboard for the Dragons in the first half. With 3:58 left in the first quarter, Hightower scampered into the end zone, which was followed by a Tullos kick.

Hightower found the end zone again on an 8-yard run with only 16 seconds left in the first, but the extra point kick failed.

Action was limited in the second quarter, but with just 22 seconds left, Hightower ran six yards for the touchdown, and Tullos kicked for an extra point.

They headed in for halftime leading the Tigers 20-0.

The Dragons wasted no time in the second half, but this time they took to the air. At the 10:52 mark Hunter York threw a 56-yard pass to Hightower for the touchdown. They went for two with a run but failed.

Trevor Richard found the end zone next for the Dragons with just more than five minutes left in the game, and Tullos was good for the kick.

There was only one touchdown in the fourth quarter at 7:14. Lineman Shawn Lopez lumbered into the end zone on a five-yard run to score, and Tullos came through again with the extra point.

Trenton struggled all night with only 16 yards rushing and 34 yards passing, while Chico managed to rack up 160 yards on the ground and 188 in the air.

With a taste of success, the Dragons hope to carry the momentum of a winning record into the off-season and carry it into next year.
