After a blowout victory over Rockwall Christian, the Chico Dragons have had to wait two weeks to get back on the field.
Chico is coming off their bye week, and now prepare for their home opener.
The Dragons host the Texas Leadership Charter Academy (TLCA) Eagles Friday at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the first of three straight home games for the Dragons.
“We got some good work in,” Chico head coach Stephen Carter said about the off week. “We got healed up, so it was good to have some time off.”
Chico gets back to work against TLCA from the San Angelo area. The Eagles are 3-0 so far on the young season and are coming off a 38-6 win against Roby.
TLCA will feature a power running game led by running back Brandon Garcia, who rushed for 200 yards last week. His team put up 335.
“They are a power running team,” Carter said. “[Garcia] can turn nothing into an 80-yard touchdown.”
Chico struggled against the last running team they played. Frost rolled up over 400 yards on the ground against the Dragons on their way to a win.
Chico will need a much better defensive performance this week against an even more versatile running attack.
Carter feels his offense is clicking on all cylinders, and if his defense can get some stops the Dragons should be able to put up some points.
“We just have to play our game,” Carter said. “I really like how wide-open our offense is right now.”
