Bridgeport needs a change of pace

By Clay Corbett | Published Wednesday, October 10, 2012

After two straight wins, the Bridgeport Bulls have taken step backward with two straight losses. The Bulls will try to get back on track when they open district play.

Bridgeport (2-4) travels to Krum (6-0) Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Bulls were without the services of running back Gabe Huerta last week after his injury against Princeton. He is still 262 yards shy of Colin Jones’ school rushing record.

Quarterback Hunter Gantt led the team in rushing without Huerta tallying 69 yards. Trey Cook continues to get the majority of the pass attempts, in Bridgeport’s two-quarterback system, completing nine against Graham for 58 yards.

Krum is undefeated and coming off a 64-0 win over Burkburnett. They have also picked up wins against Caddo Mills, Farmersville, Alvord, Paradise and WF Hirschi. The Bobcats are averaging 48 points per game.

Friday will be the first district game Krum has played in school history after joining District 9-3A last spring.

Bridgeport could use a district opening win with their bye week on the horizon and the battle with Decatur coming up on Oct. 26.
