By Messenger Staff | Published Saturday, October 13, 2012

The Bridgeport Sissies captured their first district win Tuesday, edging the Gainesville Lady Leopards 25-21, 25-23, 13-25, 22-25, 15-10.

Seniors Mariah Clayton and Sabrina Garza played a huge role in slowing down the Gainesville offense.

“The team played well together and really rallied their way out of tough situations,” Bridgeport coach Rebekah Cummings said. “We lost focus in games three and four but would not back down in game five. We look to build on this win.”

Clayton finished with 23 kills and five blocks. Garza added 12 kills, three blocks, three aces and four digs. Jessica Mares picked up 19 digs.

Tiffany Hawkins handed out 35 assists, recorded four kills, and had 14 digs.
