Boyd to battle in Paradise

By Clay Corbett | Published Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Two teams heading in opposite directions will meet in the Battle of 114 Friday night. The Boyd Yellowjackets responded from their only district loss with a decisive win against Ponder last week while the Paradise Panthers remained winless, falling to Callisburg.

Paradise (0-8, 0-4,) hosts the Boyd Yellowjackets (5-3, 3-1) Friday at Panther Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Boyd needs a win this week to clinch a spot in the postseason while the Panthers will try to play spoiler and derail their rival. A victory would at least clinch a third-place spot for the Yellowjackets with one game to play.

“They haven’t won a game, but you can throw out the records when we get together,” Boyd coach Brandon Hopkins said. “It’s a must-win for us, and they will be trying to knock us off.”

Paradise will have their hands full trying to slow down a Boyd offense that has been rolling of late. Boyd has put up 96 points in their last two league games against Callisburg and Ponder.

They put up 28 points and over 200 yards of offense in the first quarter against Ponder. Fino Cardona finished the game with 244 yards on the ground. He has already gone over the 1,300-yard mark for the season.

The Panthers are coming off a 44-18 loss to Callisburg, and a win against their county rival would make up for a lot of heartache this season.

Paradise’s defense has struggled to stop any district opponent. They have been outscored 171-62 in four league games.
