It was another exciting finish for the Boyd Yellowjackets Friday and for the third straight game they came out victorious.

Boyd held on to defeat the Pilot Point Bearcats, 24-19.

After a Fino Cardona touchdown early in the fourth quarter gave Boyd (4-2, 2-0) the lead, the Bearcats (4-2, 1-1) would put up one final drive to try to win the game.

Pilot Point put up a couple of first downs together and had the ball at the Boyd 19 yard line with nine seconds left. Boyd’s Chase Graham then came up with a huge sack that put the Bearcats back at the 31 yard line.

With two seconds left, Pilot Point’s last shot at the endzone was intercepted by Cardona, keeping the Yellowjackets perfect in district play.

Cardona got the scoring started in the first quarter, giving the Yellowjackets an early 6-0 lead.

Pilot Point came right back with a 34 yard pass from Travis Garrett to Jacob Lock to tie the game 6-6.

Boyd responded with two late first half touchdowns. Cardona had a 65-yard touchdown run and then a 27-yard touchdown to give the Yellowjackets an 18-6 halftime lead.

Pilot Point came right back in the third quarter with an Alexander Jarren two yard run cutting the lead to 18-12.

Late in the quarter, the Bearcats would take the lead on a Garrett touchdown pass to Mason Richey, giving Pilot Point a 19-18 lead.
