It started with the return of starting quarterback Blake McDonald, followed by a huge win against Sanger. This week middle linebacker Garrett Ragsdale is scheduled to make his season debut.
Boyd should be firing on all cylinders when they open district play.
The Yellowjackets (2-2) travel to Bowie (4-0) Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
“It was great momentum for us,” Boyd coach Brandon Hopkins said about beating Sanger. “Nice to get a win against a bigger school with more kids. It’s a confidence boost for us.”
Boyd has not had all their weapons on the field for a regular season game. It could not come at a better time with the undefeated Jackrabbits up next.
Bowie rolled up an injury-riddled Alvord 55-0 last week. They had not scored over 21 points in any of their other three wins. They are off to a 4-0 start after dropping down from Class 3A last season.
Bowie’s other three victories came against Henrietta, Lake Worth and WF Hirschi.
Led by Fino Cardona the Boyd offense will look to pick things up where they left off against Sanger. Cardona is closing in on 700 yards for the season after rushing for 170 last week.
“It’s tough starting against one of the top teams in the district,” Hopkins said. “But we’ll be ready for the challenge and play hard every snap. This is a big game for us.”
