The Alvord Bulldogs faced down City View in an overtime win, 29-28, Friday night at Mustang Stadium.
Sophomore Joe Randall stole the show scoring all three of Alvord’s touchdowns during regular play and the two-point conversion in overtime that secured the heart-stopping victory.
The fourth quarter ended in a deadlock – 21-21, and City View struck first in overtime on a two-yard run for the touchdown and kicked for the extra point.
With a victory on the line and expectations running high, Alvord found the answer. Casen Baker darted into the end zone on a one-yard run, and Randall sealed the deal with a two-point conversion.
Randall finished the game with 35 carries for 245 yards.
Alvord wasted no time in the first quarter scoring at 11:08. Randall had a hard, 77-yard run, and Jose Luna was good for the kick. Not to be outdone, City View found the end zone at 11:53 in the second quarter on a Kent Wingfield four-yard pass to Erik Garcia. Ethan Raber kicked the extra point.
With just 1:26 left, Randall scored again for the Bulldogs on a four-yard run, and Luna backed him up with a kick. Wingfield found the end zone again for the Mustangs with just 42 seconds left. He ran 11 yards for the touchdown, and Raber followed it up with a kick.
They left the field at halftime tied 14-14.
The third quarter slowed down, but with about four minutes left, Dalton Jackson put points on the board with a 16-yard run for City View, and Raber kicked for one.
Randall came through again for the Bulldogs with a 22-yard run at 11:11 in the fourth. Luna kicked the extra point before heading into the raucous overtime battle.
The win leaves Alvord at 3-7 for the season and 2-3 in district.
