LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

DHS mistake inexcusable

By Dorris Dickey | Published Saturday, June 16, 2012

When I read the letter from Erika Hollingsworth about her daughter, Taylor, my heart went out to both of them. For a student to receive a letter about the honors night and then to be totally overlooked is completely uncalled for. Apparently, she was not a part of the “clan.”

I hope Mrs. Hollingsworth and Taylor will continue to hold their heads high and be proud of what Taylor has accomplished. The teachers and the school staff (every one of them) should be admonished for such action.

I’ll just bet, even though she was totally ignored by “the powers that be,” she will go much further and do better in life than some of those so highly praised and recognized.

Hold your head high, Taylor, and show them what an apparently smart student can do. Shame on all of those who ignored this girl, especially Decatur High School teachers and staff.

    Dorris,

WELL SAID! One would think after this “mistake” was brought to their attention, they would at least have enough heart and honesty to issue a written apology to this young person and her family. Better yet the next time the whole school meets for an assembly, bring her up on the stage and give it to her!

We all make mistakes sadly those in power at all levels have a problem with or simply “refuse” to admit it, why???

  2. The principal has aplogized publicly and in a letter to the editor. I say the only right thing to do is forgive and move on.

    Craig,

GREAT, and you are right, time to move on!
