Woman’s body found near lake

The body of a woman was discovered Friday morning near an RV park just south of Briar, near the northwest shore of Eagle Mountain Lake.

Investigators with Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call that a dead body was found near the 6900 block of Liberty School Tap Road, near Pelican Bay.

The possible victim appears to be a white woman in her mid-40s, said Terry Grisham, spokesperson with the Sheriff’s Office. She was fully clothed and no evidence of foul play or trauma was immediately evident at the scene.

She was discovered beside a burn pile near the RV park, and it appeared she had not been deceased for more than a day or two.

“There doesn’t appear to be any effort to hide or disguise the body,” Grisham said.

As of press time, investigators were waiting for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office to help determine a possible cause of death and identity.

“Every time we find a deceased person, we treat it like a homicide until we find convincing evidence that it’s not a homicide,” Grisham said.

It’s the second time in less than a month that a body has been found near the north end of Eagle Mountain Lake.

On Aug. 2, the body of Earnest Lackey, 34, of Burleson, was found hidden in the woods south of Newark. Lackey was allegedly beaten and tortured to death. Three suspects have been arrested and charged with murder in that case.
