For the second straight weekend, more than 200 off-road riders and their spectators will flock to the rough terrain of Bridgeport for races and competitions.
The Texas Cross Country Racing Association will host Race 4012 this Saturday and Sunday at Endeavor Bridgeport, on George Mitchell Parkway, northwest of town.
The weekend-long event includes dirt bike races of all levels – from peewee to professional.
“There will be races from the 50 cc bike races for 20 minutes all the way to the pro races right at two hours, usually on a minimum of seven to 12-mile tracks,” event organizer Mark Koch said.
The gate opens noon to midnight Friday for practice.
Practice continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gates will open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. , and pee wee races start at 3:45 p.m.
The park opens at 6 a.m. Sunday and the day’s events include practice from 7 to 8 a.m., church service at 8 a.m., followed by a riders’ meeting. The “big bike” races begin with the ladies, minis and senior vets at 8:45 a.m., followed by the experts. The amateurs race wraps up the day’s events.
Like organizers of last weekend’s W.E. Rock off-roading championships, Koch said the varying terrain of the area made Bridgeport an ideal venue for the event.
“We want to find something that has enough acreage – anywhere from 150 to 600 acres, depending on the layout of the land,” he said. “We want elevation changes, some difficulties as far as rock, sand, some wooded areas – a little bit of everything. That’s all right here in Bridgeport.”
Admission is $10 for a Saturday/Sunday gate pass (under 6 and over 60 are free).
