Short wins constable race

By Messenger Staff | Published Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Larry Short was elected Precinct 2 constable Tuesday, defeating Mike Andrews by a vote of 539 to 396 in the Republican primary runoff.

Short will serve as the next constable for the precinct since the race did not draw a Democratic opponent.

In the May 29 primary, Short received 46.5 percent of the vote in the four-person race with 574 votes, and Andrews received 20.3 percent of the total vote with 251 votes. Angela Denney and Jackie (J.W.) Johnson received less than 20 percent of the vote.

The Republican ballot also included U.S. senator, two railroad commissioner races and Place 4 supreme court justice.

The Democratic ballot featured U.S. senator.
