A hearing regarding the temporary suspension of Precinct 4 County Commissioner Terry Ross is scheduled for August.
Judge Roger Towery, with the 97th District Court of Texas in Henrietta, was assigned to the case and will preside over the 10 a.m. hearing Tuesday, Aug. 14. He was appointed by Judge Jeff Walker, who presides over the 8th Administrative Judicial Region of Texas.
The judge assignment and hearing date were filed in the district clerk’s office July 9, and it’s in response to the petition for removal of office filed by citizen Lane Akin June 27.
Two months ago Ross was indicted by a grand jury for tampering with government records and abuse of official capacity. The indictment indicates Ross built a playhouse on public property, used county employees on county time to help build the structure, and used building components or electrical supplies purchased with county money to build the playhouse.
Ross has until 5 p.m. Friday, July 20, to file a written response to the petition, which is in accordance with Texas Local Government Code.
