Roommate indicted in knife attack

A Bridgeport man arrested last month for stabbing his roommate has been indicted by a Wise County grand jury.

Casey Steven Mason, 32, was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to Bridgeport Assistant Police Chief Steve Stanford, Mason allegedly used a paring knife to attack Radley J. Unger, 24, during a fight at their home in the 1300 block of Court Circle in Bridgeport the night of Sept. 15. Mason had allegedly punched his fianc e in the face numerous times when Unger stepped in to confront his roommate. The two began fighting, and Mason allegedly used the knife to wound Unger.

Unger sustained eight puncture wounds and one slash during the assault. He also suffered eye injuries when Mason allegedly used his thumbs in an attempt to gouge out his eyes. Unger was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He has since been released.

When police officers arrived, Mason barricaded himself in a back room. Officers used force to gain entry and had to use a Tazer to get the suspect under control. Mason remains in the Wise County Jail with bond set at $10,000.

Other indictments returned by the grand jury Oct. 17 include:

  • Danny Lee Newman, fraudulent possession of a controlled substance/prescription drug (three counts)
  • Steve Ray Skinner, possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, 4-200 grams
  • Johnny Fred Waterhouse, possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, less than 1 gram
  • Johnny Fred Waterhouse, credit card or debit card abuse
  • Jason Will Allen, assault family/household member impede breathing/circulation
  • David Wayne Bryan, assault family/household member with previous conviction
  • John Ryan Braun, harassment of public official
  • Rance Cupp, theft of material – aluminum, bronze, copper or brass, less than $20,000
  • Kevin Clayton Hubbard, theft of material – aluminum, bronze, copper or brass, less than $20,000
  • Kevin Royce Jones, tamper with oil/gas rigs without written authority
  • Kevin Royce Jones, burglary of a building
