A Decatur resident was killed early Thursday morning when she was struck by a motorcycle on U.S. 81/287 near the U.S. 380 bypass.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said Juana De Leon Mu oz, 58, was running across the southbound lanes of U.S. 81/287 when she was struck by a motorcycle driven by Bryant Eudy, 32, of Decatur.

Munoz had already crossed the northbound lanes of the roadway and was apparently walking to the nearby Holiday Inn Express where she worked.

Eudy was coming off the entrance ramp from U.S. 380 to the southbound lanes of U.S. 81/287 when the accident occurred. He was transported to Wise Regional Health System with non-life-threatening injuries, Hoskins said.

Munoz was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow, who ordered an autopsy, Hoskins said.

Funeral for Munoz is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery.
