A fistfight at a Saturday-night party in Decatur turned even more violent, sending two Bridgeport residents to the hospital with knife wounds.
Decatur Police are investigating the late-night fight punctuated with two young men getting slashed in the arms very early Sunday morning in Decatur.
Dominic Tagle, 21, and a juvenile male, both of Bridgeport, were both cut during a fight at a house party on Sewell Street in Decatur.
“Some kids were having a beer party, and it got out of hand,” said Decatur Police Sgt. Gerald Wright. “Several people got into a fistfight.”
Jake Degraf, who lives at the house, came outside the home brandishing a knife and told everyone to leave. At this point someone hit him in the face, and he dropped the knife.
His younger brother, 17-year-old Gumaro Degraf, a Decatur High School student, allegedly picked up the pocket knife and started slashing wildly, cutting the two young men on their upper arms.
One victim wound up at the emergency room of Wise Regional Health System in Decatur, and the other arrived at the emergency room at North Texas Community Hospital in Bridgeport.
No arrest has been made, but Degraf will likely be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.
“This wasn’t a Decatur-versus-Bridgeport thing, it was more a case of drinking and testosterone, being young and making bad decisions,” Wright said.
Both victims were stitched up at the hospital and sent home the same night.
Degraf lives at the home with his brother and grandparents, who were out of town when the party was thrown.
