More than 50 off-road racing crews will traverse the varied terrain at the Northwest OHV Park in Bridgeport for the 2012 Dirt Riot National Rampage championships this weekend.

“W.E. Rock (the parent company putting on the event) is one of the best off-roading companies in the nation,” said Ryan Nolting, director of parks and recreation for the city of Bridgeport. “They have had races all over the U.S. during their season, and we will be hosting their nationals this weekend here in Bridgeport.”

The series of dirt riot endurance racing is divided into five regions – western, southwest, central, mountain and Great Lakes. Event organizers say a combination of the terrain found in each region is apparent at the Bridgeport venue.

“It’s all tied in one,” Rich Cline said. “There’s rock like we see heavily in the west, a lot of trees like we have in the east and high-speed sections like we see in the southwest, the desert area. Aside from being centrally located, we just really like the park. It’s a great venue for what we do.”

Races are all day Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. There will be UTV (utility task vehicle) races, endurance competitions, sportsman classes and a qualifier race in the morning for the professional race in the afternoon.

Gates open at 8 a.m. and admission is $15 for adults, $8 for children 8 to 15, age 7 and under free.

“Northwest OHV continues to be successful for the city of Bridgeport,” Nolting said. “It brings off road enthusiasts from all over Texas, and events like W.E. Rock help get the word out that Northwest OHV … is available for all to enjoy.”
