The 2011-2012 Northwest ISD School Board was named an Honor School Board and one of five finalists for the Texas Association of School Administrators’ (TASA) Outstanding Board award.
The finalists will be interviewed during the TASA/Texas Association of School Boards annual convention Sept. 28-30 in Austin, where one board will be named the 2012 Outstanding School Board.
Members of the honored board include then-President Mark Schluter, then-Vice President Mel Fuller, Secretary Josh Wright, Devonna Holland, Kerry Jones, Daryl Laney and Jeannette Leong.
“I am so proud of our 2011-2012 Board of Trustees for this well-deserved achievement,” said Superintendent Karen G. Rue. “This visionary group puts kids first in every decision they make. They recognize the importance of creating 21st-century learners and strive to do what’s best for Northwest ISD students and staff.”
In July, the board was recognized as the Region XI Outstanding Board and moved on as a candidate for the statewide honor. The five finalists were selected from a pool of 20.
“Our school board has raised the district’s expectations and challenged Northwest ISD for continual improvement,” Rue said. “Together they are united for children.”
