CHRISTMAS PARADE – The Alvord Christmas Parade is 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. For more information, call or text Jody Slaten at (940) 389-0417.


SANTA FLY IN – Santa will fly by helicopter to The Community Bank in Bridgeport 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, to pose for photos with kids.

ANGEL DEADLINE – The deadline to donate to the Bridgeport Spirit of Christmas is Friday, Dec. 7. Donations can be made at City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce or any of the four Bridgeport banks. Donations will also be accepted at the Winter Wonderland holiday event Saturday on Halsell Street.

HOLIDAY EVENT – Bridgeport’s Winter Wonderland event is 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in downtown. Events include pictures with Santa 4 to 5:30 p.m. at State Farm, wassail tasting 5 to 8 p.m., the lighted Christmas parade at 6 p.m., tacky/ugly sweater contest at 7 p.m. at the Bridgeport Stage, and Holiday Shopping Frenzy and window decorating winners announced at 8 p.m. Parking will be available on Stevens, 11th, 9th and Cates streets and all side streets. SHOPPING FRENZY – Holiday Shopping Frenzy sponsored by the Bridgeport Area Chamber of Commerce is Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8. There will be two $500 cash and two $50 Brookshire’s gift card giveaways. Participants will be entered for visiting and for every $20 spent at any participating business – C&O Communications/AT&T, Maria’s Gift and Flower Shoppe, Aaron’s Sales and Leasing, The Hope Chest, Terra Cotta Boutique, Bright Ideas Lighting and More, Ink ‘N’ Stitch, Valu-Rite Pharmacy, All Wise Garden Center and Landscaping, Skin and Body Works Spa, Sassy Frass, iCopy and Pronto’s Italian Restaurant. The drawing will be held 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Bridgeport Stage, 1009 Halsell St. Participants do not have to be present to win.


ANGEL ADOPTION – The deadline to adopt an Angel for the Decatur Spirit of Christmas is Wednesday, Dec. 5. Angels are available at each of the nine financial institutions in town, and as of last week, only 20 of 156 Angels had been adopted. This year, the Decatur campaign adopted the voucher system Bridgeport implemented last year.

BOOK FAIR – McCarroll Middle School is hosting a book fair this week in the library. There will be a coffee bean guessing contest, and winners will be given gift certificates to the fair.

BOOK CLUB – McCarroll Middle School students and parents are invited to join the Intergenerational Book Club. The group will discuss “The Jungle Book” by Rudyard Kipling 8:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the seventh and eighth grade library. BREAKFAST WITH SANTA – The Decatur Fire Department is hosting a free pancake breakfast with Santa Claus 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the fire hall. Bring your own camera for photos.


PHOTOS WITH SANTA – Pictures with Santa Claus are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street.


COOKIES WITH SANTA – Santa Claus will be at City Hall 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. There will be cookies, hot chocolate, a free raffle and free pictures with Santa.

ANGEL DEADLINE – Angel gifts for the South Wise Spirit of Christmas must be returned to banks Wednesday, Dec. 12. Donations of food and money can be made until that time.


TREE LIGHTING – A Christmas parade starts at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in downtown Slidell. It will end at the First Baptist Church where a beans and cornbread supper will be served. Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be collected and donated to the Slidell school’s Angel Tree. Following the supper, a Christmas tree will be lit downtown. COLLECT TOYS – Any organizations, church groups or businesses interested in collecting Toys For Tots may pick up a collection box from CiCi’s Pizza in Decatur. U.S. Marine Corps representatives will pick up the donations from the restaurant 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. For more information, call Keith at (940) 393-2088.

ELDERLY ANGELS – Home Health Care of North Central Texas is accepting applications for the 4th annual angel tree for the elderly and disabled through Wednesday, Dec. 12. Call (940) 683-3300 for more information.

PESTICIDE APPLICATORS – Those with a pesticide applicator’s license can earn five continuing education units at a workshop 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Decatur Civic Center. Participants will receive one hour, laws and regulations; two hours, integrated pest management; and two hours, general. Lunch is included. IMPACT MEETING – Parents can learn helpful homework tips and how to access information on the district website at an informational, IMPACT meeting 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Board Room at the Administration Building, 2001 Texan Dr., in Fort Worth.
