CLASSIC CARS – Cruise Nights on the Courthouse Square is Saturday, Sept. 1, in Decatur. Registration is $10 per vehicle, and it runs 4 to 7 p.m. Awards will be presented in 20 classes at 8 p.m. Downtown merchants and restaurants will stay open late. For information, call (940) 627-6158.

PARK SPRINGS HOMECOMING – The 58th Park Springs reunion is Sunday, Sept. 2, in the Fellowship Hall of Victory Baptist Church, Texas 101 in Park Springs. Registration, a potluck lunch and visiting is at noon, and official ceremonies begin at 2 p.m.

BRIDGEPORT SOCCER – Bridgeport Youth Association is having soccer sign-ups at the Bridgeport Library 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2. Registration is $60.

HOLIDAY CLOSINGS – Banks and government offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 3, for the Labor Day holiday. The Wise County Animal Shelter will be closed Saturday and will reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS – Two different Wise County Grief Support Groups, one for teens and one for adults, will be Monday, Sept. 3, and will continue to be held the first and third Monday of every month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The teen group (for ages 13 and older) will meet at the Wise County Sheriff’s Department. Parental permission is required for the teen group, and a form can be obtained by calling Laura Tanner at (940) 626-2973 or Eva Czernaik at (940) 210-5452.

PUBLIC HEARING NO. 2 – The Decatur City Council will hold a second required public hearing Tuesday, Sept. 4, on its 2012-13 ad valorem tax rate. No one spoke at the first hearing, held Aug. 27. Tuesday’s hearing is at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 201 E. Walnut. The proposed tax rate of 66.3 cents per $100 valuation would raise taxes on a $100,000 home by approximately $9 a year.

NEW ID REQUIREMENTS – Starting Tuesday, Sept. 4, new rules will be in place for vehicle title registration and initial registration. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles’ requirements for an “acceptable ID” include a photograph, unique identification number, birth date and expiration date. The types of IDs that will be accepted include a driver license or state identification certificate issued by a state or territory of the U.S., U.S. or foreign passport, U.S. military ID, North Atlantic Treaty Organization ID or identification issued under the Status of Forces Agreement, U.S. Department of Homeland Security ID, U.S. Department of State ID, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services document. These changes are requirements of new state laws (House Bill 2017 and 2357). They do not apply to vehicle registration renewal.
