A 26-year-old man died in a one-vehicle accident just north of Rhome about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

Jeremy Evans of Rhome was driving north on County Road 4733 in a Toyota Solara when he missed a sharp turn, striking a tree.

“He basically drove straight through the curve,” said DPS Trooper Adolpho Patterson. “He was likely intoxicated.”

Patterson noted the vehicle smelled strongly of alcohol, and there were four “alcohol containers” in the car. Evans had no passengers.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow.

Funeral for Evans is 2 p.m. Thursday at Rhome Assembly of God Church with burial to follow at Aurora Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
