GATHERING HORDES - Last year's drought allowed unprecedented numbers of grasshoppers to successfully lay eggs in the dry soil. This year farmers, gardeners and homeowners are dealing with trees, shrubs, vegetable gardens and grass fields stripped bare. Messenger photo by Joe Duty
