Foundation honors donors

The Decatur ISD Education Foundation honored its donors at last week’s kickoff luncheon and announced its goal of raising $50,000 this year.

The DEF provides innovative teaching grants to educators in the district.

Those honored for giving at the diamond level of $5,000 were Wise Regional Health System and Devon Energy.

For contributing $2,000, Charles and Loraine Burton and Lovette August Pediatrics were honored as gold partners.

Silver partners who contributed at least $1,000 were Bond Family Eyecare, J.E. and Betty Carson, Allen Cocanougher, C.M. and JoAnn Cocanougher, Datalink Information Services, DATCU, Decatur ISD faculty and staff, Roy and Jeannine Eaton, First Financial Bank, C.L. and Patti Gage, Joe Neil and Marianne Henderson, James Wood Motors, Legend Bank, North Texas Bank, Oncor, Linda Whiddon, Herbert and Susan Williams, Wise Electric Cooperative and Young’s Tank.

Donors were each given a diamond-shaped memento to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the foundation. More than $275,000 in teaching grants have been given to educators over the past 10 years.

Foundation Director Meradith Culpepper said $43,950 of the $50,000 goal had already been donated or pledged.

The luncheon at the Decatur Civic Center also included a singing performance by the Decatur High School choir under the direction of Amberly Sneed.

Carson Elementary teachers Danielle Scroggins and Rhonda Whiteaker gave a presentation about how physical education and science teachers at Decatur’s three elementary schools received foundation grants to fund a science day which included a 3.5-mile walk at the LBJ National Grasslands.
