Election day is Tuesday

By Brian Knox | Published Saturday, July 28, 2012

Voters still have some primary business to tend to, and they’ll get their final chance to complete that business Tuesday.

Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for both the Democratic and Republican primary runoff elections.

Voters in Chico should note that the original voting location for the Republican primary runoff election has changed from the library to the council chambers of City Hall in its new location at 400 S. Hovey. The library is unavailable due to ongoing renovation work.

The Republican ballot includes Precinct 2 constable candidates Mike Andrews and Larry Short, the top vote-getters out of four candidates for the position on the May 29 primary ballot.

The race did not draw a Democratic challenger.

The Republican ballot also includes U.S. senator, two railroad commissioner races and Place 4 supreme court justice.

The Democratic ballot features only U.S. senator.

A week of early voting ended Friday with 974 ballots cast in the Republican election and 40 in the Democratic.

Registered voters who voted in the May 29 Republican primary can vote in the GOP runoff, and those who voted in the Democratic primary can cast a ballot in the Democratic runoff. Registered voters who did not participate in either party’s primary may choose to vote in either the Republican or Democratic runoff election.

Local election results will be posted at www.WCMessenger.com Tuesday night when they are available.
