A Bridgeport man was interested in more than just getting a tan at a Decatur tanning salon.
Earlier this month, Mark A. Yeatts, 49, of Bridgeport was indicted by a Wise County grand jury for allegedly using his cell phone to photograph and record a nude teenage girl in a tanning bed at Toast Yur Bunz.
The indictment stems from an incident in May.
“He took his phone and reached over the wall to record the female in the next room,” said Decatur Police Sgt. Mike Picha.
“She looked up and saw the man recording her,” said Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins. “She screamed, and the suspect ran out the door.”
An employee at the tanning salon recognized the suspect as Yeatts. According to records kept at the business, Yeatts has visited the establishment 560 times in the past nine years.
The victim told investigators that she was lying in the tanning bed for 10 minutes when she opened her eyes and witnessed a man looming over the top of the wall recording her with his cell phone.
The bed the victim was in has bulbs on the sides, leaving her completely exposed. She was tanning in room No. 2. Yeatts was allegedly in room No. 1. There is a gap between the top of the wall and the ceiling.
Yeatts admitted in a written statement that he “stood on a chair and took a picture of the victim as she was tanning.”
The victim is a Decatur High School student.
Yeatts was arrested June 21 by Decatur Police. He posted $20,000 bail the same day.
Improper photography or visual recording is a state jail felony. If found guilty, punishment could extend from 180 days to two years in a state jail and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
This is the second year in a row that a man allegedly committed improper photography or visual recording in Decatur in May. In May 2011, Edwin G. Bates, 47, of Poolville, was arrested after he got caught using a camera attached to his shoe to film up the skirts of women at Wal-Mart.
Toast Yur Bunz was contacted for this story but did not return a call by press time.
