Wise County commissioners proposed a property tax rate and college branch maintenance tax rate for fiscal year 2013 at a special meeting Wednesday.

The proposed property tax rate is 37.8979 cents per $100 valuation, which is the effective rate. That means, if approved, it will raise the same amount of tax dollars as last year’s 38-cent rate.

The 37.8979 cents includes 28.9256 cents for general fund and 8.9723 cents for road and bridge.

They proposed a college branch maintenance tax of 4.6148 cents per $100 valuation, which is also the effective rate. It’s one-one hundredth of a cent less than last year’s rate of 4.6250 cents per $100 valuation.

Commissioners tentatively plan to meet Wednesday, Aug. 15, to set the tax rates and approve the county budget.
