Both the Bridgeport and Decatur High School bands ended their competition seasons last Saturday at the Area B Marching Contest in Denton’s Collins Stadium.
Both bands earned first division ratings in UIL Regional contest the previous Saturday, advancing to the Area round in the toughest region in the state.
At Area, the top 10 of 24 qualifying bands made the finals, out of which the top four qualified for state contest, to be held Nov. 5-6 in San Antonio’s Alamodome.
Bridgeport finished 15th in the prelims, and Decatur was two behind at 17th.
Earning spots in the finals were Argyle, Princeton, Wills Point, Canton, Frisco Lone Star, Anna, Kaufman, Aubrey, Celina and Iowa Park. The four emerging state qualifiers were the top four out of that group – Argyle, Princeton, Wills Point and Canton. Argyle is the defending state 3A champion.
Bands from 3A and 5A schools can advance to state this year, while next year bands from A, 2A and 4A schools will have a chance for a state title.
